Mockingbird 3.0 Honest Review: Is This Single-to-Double Stroller Worth It?

Mockingbird 3.0 Stroller

I’m so excited share my honest review of the Mockingbird 3.0 single-to-double stroller because this stroller has a special place in my heart. The original Mockingbird was the stroller I got with my first baby back in 2020. I had really wanted the UPPAbaby Vista, but I could not afford it, and when I found the Mockingbird with so many of the same amazing features at a more affordable price point was a game-changer. Mockingbird has now released its third version, and each one has been a little better than the last.

In this post, I am going to walk you through everything you need to know about the Mockingbird Single-to-Double Stroller 3.0, including what’s new, what I love, what could be better, and whether it’s the right stroller for your family. I also have a code to save! I have a lot of experience with Mockingbird’s strollers, so I am excited to give you my honest take.

Mockingbird 3.0 Quick Summary

In case you don’t have time to read the entire post, here is what you should know:

  • The Mockingbird 3.0 is priced at $549 and includes the stroller frame, wheels, one seat (with a built-in LegShade and reversible seasonal seat liner), a detachable child bumper bar, and an extendable canopy. Use code EMSTROLLER to get a free parent cup holder at checkout *add to cart*!
  • The Mockingbird 3.0 works from birth with the purchase of an infant insert, bassinet, or car seat adapter, and it is compatible with over 40 infant car seat models. It’s rare to see a stroller with this many infant car seat adapter options.
  • Some standout features include an easy one-hand fold, magnetic buckles, a new built-in LegShade for sun protection, a reversible seat liner with mesh for summer and knit for cooler weather, reflective accents for low-light visibility, storage pockets on the back of the seat, an adjustable canopy height that makes this one of the tallest single-to-double seats on the market, a spacious 25 lb storage basket, no-rethread harnesses, and over 44 different configurations.
  • It is customizable with multiple canopy colors (including three new options), two leatherette handlebar colors, and a brand new charcoal frame. You can also purchase accessories like a second seat kit, bassinet, infant seat insert, rider board, parent organizer, snack tray, and more.
  • The Mockingbird 3.0 weighs about 27 pounds in single mode and around 35 pounds in double mode.
  • The push is really smooth in single mode. In double mode, it is a little more difficult to maneuver, which is a common trade-off with most single-to-double strollers, especially when pushing babies that differ in ages and weights.
  • It offers several benefits that most other single-to-double strollers do not, like two seats of the same size with the same 45 lbs per seat weight capacity, great for your twin parents. And you can use the bassinet on top in double mode, which most competitors cannot.

What’s New on the Mockingbird 3.0

If you already own the 2.0 and are wondering what changed, here are the key updates:

  • The 3.0 introduces a built-in LegShade, which is a mesh cover that pulls out from beneath the seat to protect your child’s legs from the sun.
  • The buckles are now magnetic and so much easier to use.
  • There is a brand new reversible seat liner with mesh on one side for warm summer days and a knit material on the other side for cooler weather. It is easy to remove and machine washable.
  • They added storage pockets on the back of the seat and ones in the seat for your child’s treasures.
  • The canopy can now be adjusted to go higher, making this one of the tallest single-to-double seats on the market. We tested it with my 99th percentile five-and-a-half-year-old (who is right at the 45 lb weight limit), and she was able to comfortably fit with the canopy extended over her. That is truly impressive for a modular stroller.
  • Reflective accents have been added throughout the stroller and fabrics for better visibility in low light.
  • The harness now has two different crotch buckle positions and a bit more adjustment.
  • Three new canopy colors plus a new charcoal frame option. The leatherette on the handlebar has also been upgraded to look a bit more elevated.

One great thing to note is that many of the 2.0 accessories still work with the 3.0 frame and vise versa, including the bassinet (though they also released an updated 3.0 bassinet with some added mesh).

Price and What’s Included

The Mockingbird 3.0 retails at $549, which is the same price as the 2.0. For that price, you get the stroller frame, wheels, one seat with the built-in LegShade and reversible liner, a detachable child bumper bar, and an extendable canopy with UPF 50+ protection. The second seat and other accessories are sold separately.

Mockingbird is also a great company that stands behind their product. They offer excellent customer support and a lifetime warranty, which gives you a lot of peace of mind.

Handlebar

Mockingbird 3.0 upgraded cognac leatherette handlebar with swivel pivot height adjustment

The handlebar comes in either cognac brown or black leatherette, and the material has been upgraded to feel a bit more premium on the 3.0. It has a swivel/pivot adjustment, which gives you a few different height positions. Both my husband (6 feet tall) and I (5’5″) can find a comfortable height, and switching between us is quick and simple.

I tend to prefer telescopic handlebars for taller parents, especially if you plan to use the riding board. But Mockingbird actually did a really great job with their riding board. It attaches to the side wheel, and my kids love it. It is honestly one of my favorite riding boards on the market because it does not affect your walk as the parent pushing.

Canopy

Mockingbird 3.0 front view with full canopy coverage and child seated in forward-facing mode

The canopy has really nice coverage and is UPF 50+ to protect your child from the sun. There is a magnetic peek-a-boo window, which is great for keeping an eye on your little one. However, I noticed that the peek-a-boo window is positioned so that when my child was fully upright and forward-facing, I could not easily see them unless the seat was reclined. When they were younger and in a more reclined position, it worked perfectly.

You can unzip the extension and use the mesh panel for added airflow, which is a nice option on hot days. The canopy is also water-resistant, and some colors have an inside features a black-and-white pattern designed to promote early visual development, which is a thoughtful detail.

The 3.0 now allows you to move the canopy up higher, which is one of my favorite updates. This gives taller children more headroom and is a big reason this stroller accommodated my five-and-a-half-year-old so comfortably.

The canopy comes in several colors, and you can mix and match with your frame color to customize the look. The new heathered options give it a softer, more elevated aesthetic.

Seat, Buckles, Bumper Bar, and Footrest

The seat can hold up to 50 pounds in single mode and 45 pounds per seat in double mode, making it a great option for parents with older children. Both seats in double mode are the exact same size, which is a huge selling point compared to many competitors, where the second seat is smaller.

The seat reclines easily with one hand across five positions, from upright to a near-flat recline. You can start using it at about three months, or from birth with the purchase of an infant insert, bassinet, or car seat adapter. I personally love their bassinet!

The buckles have been upgraded to be magnetic on the 3.0, and they are so much easier to use. I love that they snap together quickly. The harness is no-rethread, so switching between kids of different sizes is simple.

The bumper bar opens from both sides, so you can release one side or remove the entire bar depending on your needs.

The footrest is adjustable and has a nice calf support. There is also a lower footrest area, though I found that in single-to-double strollers with this bucket seat style, the lower footrest is not as practical as it is on something like a travel stroller. But it gets the job done, especially for older children who can rest their feet there.

The new reversible seat liner is a really nice addition. Mesh on one side for breathability in the heat and a soft knit on the other for cooler days. It is easy to pop off for washing, which is always a win.

You also now have that mesh liner built into the seat for sunny days.

Storage Basket, Brake, and Parent Storage

The under-seat storage basket is spacious and can hold up to 25 pounds. There is no bar across the middle, so you can fit a lot in there. It is very easy to access in single mode and a little less so in double mode, depending on your seat arrangement, but that is to be expected.

The brake is easy to use and flip-flop friendly, which I always test for. One nice design detail is that it is black, so it does not show shoe prints.

The stroller does not come with built-in parent storage, but you can purchase a parent organizer ($35) and cup holder, which you get for free with my code! Use EMSTROLLER and add the cup holder to cart.

They also added a new pocket on the back of the seat for diapers and wipes, plus the phone pocket that was already on the 2.0. These small additions really make a difference for everyday convenience.

Infant and Car Seat Compatibility

The Mockingbird 3.0 is compatible with over 40 infant car seat models from brands including Chicco, Graco, Nuna, UPPAbaby, Cybex, Clek, Maxi-Cosi, Britax, and more. You just need to purchase the car seat adapter separately. This is one of the largest compatibility lists on the market, and I love that you are not locked into one car seat brand.

You can also pair the stroller with Mockingbird’s lie-flat bassinet, which is one of my favorite baby accessories. I put the Mockingbird bassinet on my registry as a new mom, and everybody told me it was not practical. My aunt ended up buying it, and it has been one of my most-used accessories for all three of my kids. Having a safe sleep space for your baby when you visit a friend’s house, travel, or are out and about is so incredibly convenient. It can also be used with a stand for overnight sleep in your home.

Folding, Unfolding, and Ease of Use

The Mockingbird 3.0 has a true one-hand fold, which is not something most single-to-double strollers can claim. You line up the seat outward-facing, slide and push one button, and the stroller collapses. It locks automatically and stands on its own when folded.

To unfold, you pull a latch on the side, and it pops right open.

It is a full-size stroller at about 27 pounds, so it is not small by any means. It is a bit bulky when folded, and I usually take the seat off when storing it in my trunk for a more compact package. The folded dimensions are about 34 inches tall, 25.5 inches wide, and 18 inches deep.

Maneuverability and Performance

Close-up of Mockingbird 3.0 never-flat tires with all-wheel suspension on the charcoal frame

The push in single mode is really smooth. The stroller has all-wheel suspension and shock-absorbing, never-flat tires. It handles flat surfaces, shopping, parks, and casual walks really well and can take on a variety of terrain. If you live on a gravel road or have very bumpy streets, I would generally recommend a true all-terrain stroller with air-filled tires. But for most families, the Mockingbird is going to be versatile enough for everyday life and the occasional trip to a cabin.

In double mode, the push is not perfect, and this is true for most single-to-double strollers. When you add that second child and more weight, it can feel a little more tippy going up curbs, and tight spaces become trickier. This is not unique to Mockingbird. It is a common trade-off across tandem strollers. I have a full post breaking down the differences between tandem and side-by-side double strollers, which is worth checking out if you are a first-time parent trying to decide.

Mockingbird 3.0 as a Double & Twin Stroller

To make the Mockingbird a double, you purchase the second seat kit, which includes the second seat and all the adapters you need. The second seat is the exact same size as the first, and both hold 45 pounds. This is a huge advantage over many competitors, where the second seat is smaller or has a lower weight limit.

Converting from single to double is simple and takes less than a minute. With the 3.0, the stroller now supports 44 different configurations, including options with the bassinet on top, two forward-facing seats, parent-facing combinations, and riding board setups for a third child.

One of the configurations I loved most was being able to put the bassinet on top and have my newborn closest to me. I used this with my second baby, who was a bit more fussy, and being able to have her right there was so helpful. Not every single-to-double stroller allows you to have the bassinet in that top position, and it is a real advantage.

For twin parents, this stroller is also a solid option. You can pair it with two infant car seats, two infant inserts, or a combination. The fact that both seats are identical and hold the same weight means better weight distribution with two babies around the same size. This stroller will push better for twin parents because you will have two children of similar weights and sizes.

Now, to be completely honest, this stroller is better as a single than it is as a double. At 27 pounds in single mode, it has a large storage basket, great accessories, and a smooth push. As a double, it is okay. Are many of my friends who bought theirs back in 2020 still using theirs as a double? Absolutely. Have they accepted that the push is not perfect in double mode? Yes. It is still a great value and gets the job done.

What Accessories Are Available for the Mockingbird 3.0?

Mockingbird offers a wide range of accessories, and this is one of the things I love about the brand. You can really customize the stroller to fit your family’s needs. Available accessories include: car seat adapter, lie-flat bassinet (with optional stand for safe sleep), infant seat insert, 2nd seat kit, riding board, parent organizer, parent cup holder, snack tray, extra canopy, rain cover, footmuff, hand muff, and mosquito net. Other Strollers You May Be Considering

If you are deciding between the Mockingbird 3.0 and some of the other popular single-to-double strollers, here is a quick breakdown:

UPPAbaby Vista V3: The push is a little smoother, the basket holds 30 pounds instead of 25, and it has a premium feel. But it comes at a significantly higher price point. If you are on the fence between the two, I have a full comparison video on my channel (filmed with the 2.0, but the core differences still apply). Just keep the 3.0 updates in mind.

Cybex Gazelle S: A more luxurious single to double that also offers two seats that are the same size and hold the same amount of weight. The details are more elevated, but at an added price point, and the fold is not as easy. Check out my full review of the Cybex Gazelle S.

Bugaboo Kangaroo: While this is one of the few single-to-doubles that does allow you to put the bassinet on top, this stroller is not perfect as a double and comes at a significantly higher price point. The second seat is smaller, and there is not as much space between the two seats.

Joie Chive: This is a similarly priced single-to-double, but has some key differences, like only working with one infant car seat and no carry cot option in double mode. Both have large storage baskets!

Who Is the Mockingbird 3.0 Best For?

Three children using the Mockingbird 3.0 in double mode with riding board for a third child

There is no perfect stroller. Every stroller has trade-offs, and it is about finding what works best for your family’s unique situation.

The Mockingbird 3.0 is a great option for families looking for a full-size stroller that will grow with their baby from birth into toddlerhood. The fact that I was able to fit my five-and-a-half-year-old (99th percentile for height!) in this seat is truly impressive for a modular stroller. It has a reversible seat, a large storage basket, great canopy coverage, lots of amazing accessories, and it works with so many different infant car seat brands. The new 3.0 features, like the magnetic buckles, LegShade, reversible seat liner, and adjustable canopy height, make it even better than before, all at the same price point.

I love this stroller as a single and think it shines in that mode. It can be a good option as a double for twin parents who will have two kids around the same weight, but the push in double mode is not its strongest suit.

If you need something that will primarily be a double stroller from day one and you want the smoothest possible push, you might want to look at a side-by-side option or a stroller designed as a double first. But if you want an affordable, versatile, full-size stroller that gives you the option to expand when your family grows, the Mockingbird 3.0 is hard to beat.
