Ergobaby Metro 3 From Top to Bottom
If you’ve seen my YouTube videos, you know I’m thorough and cover all the details that matter most to parents. In this section, I’ll walk you through the Metro 3 from top to bottom, highlighting key features that could help you decide if this is the right stroller for your needs. The Handlebar
One of the few travel strollers with an adjustable handlebar. It goes surprisingly high. Ergobaby switched to a pivot design, which is easier to adjust, even though I did like the old telescopic style a little more. Still, this one is easier to adjust and works especially well for taller or shorter parents.
The Canopy
One of the biggest improvements on the Metro 3 is the canopy. The extended canopy now offers better sun protection, with an easy zip-out extension that provides solid coverage. The magnetic peekaboo window is one of the best I’ve seen—it has three magnets so you can partially open or roll it up fully, and they actually stay in place. It’s a thoughtful design change that adds both convenience and airflow, and the canopy sits high enough that it doesn’t interfere with your hands while pushing.
The Seat
The seat on the Metro 3 is one of the most plush and padded I’ve tested in a travel stroller. It feels premium and supportive, and the seat liner is machine washable (just air dry).
The seat back height is just under 21 inches, which makes it one of the tallest on the market and gives plenty of growing room. It’s also wide and deep enough to comfortably fit toddlers. The seat is more upright than other options like the Minu V3, which my toddlers appreciated. The no-rethread harness is a great touch if you’re switching between kids. And while the buckle is fairly easy to use, it did occasionally pop out and needed to be fed back in. Still, overall the seat felt thoughtfully designed and functional for daily use.
I will discuss the recline further under infant compatibility, but the seat is a big selling point for this stroller. I love the mesh for added airflow when the seat is reclined and the fact that it has a nearly flat recline.
The Bumper Bar
The bumper bar isn’t included with the stroller, but it’s available as a separate accessory. It attaches easily using the same connection points as the snack tray and car seat adapters, making it simple to swap accessories as needed. They also sell a snack tray!
The Footrest
The Metro 3 features a two-level footrest: a raised calf section that supports younger babies and there is a panel that comes out for a closure creating newborn mode. A lower built-in footrest is designed for toddlers to rest their legs more naturally and my older girls really liked this feature. Both areas are sturdy and roomy, helping the stroller adapt as your child grows.
The Brake
The brake is easy to press down but harder to lift back up, especially if you’re wearing sandals. It’s usable, just not the most flip-flop-friendly option. This was the most frustrating feature for me of this stroller.
The Basket and Storage
This is a significant improvement. The basket now holds up to 22 lbs, which is on the higher end for a travel stroller. While it can accommodate a large diaper bag, the rear wheels are positioned closer together, which makes access to the back a bit tighter. I found that front access worked better, especially with larger bags like my Calpak or Itzy Ritzy diaper bag. Medium-sized diaper bags slide in more easily, and the added mesh panel helps keep things in place.
Ergobaby Metro 3 Infant and Car Seat Compatibility
The newborn-ready recline and bassinet mode is one of my favorite features of this stroller. The way Ergo designed their style of newborn nest mode makes accessing the baby so much easier. I traveled a few time with the Metro+ Deluxe with my third baby and this stroller makes travel with a newborn so much easier.
But one of the biggest improvements over the previous Metro models— is the car seat adapters on the Metro 3 – and it makes a huge difference. You no longer have to remove the seat to attach a car seat, which was a frustrating hassle on the older versions. Now, the adapters pop right into the frame with the seat still attached, making it much easier to use as a travel system. It works with car seats from Nuna, Cybex, Maxi-Cosi, and Clek. It’s worth noting that it no longer supports Chicco or Graco, but for many families, the improved functionality more than makes up for that. You can even fold the stroller with the adapters attached, though I recommend removing them for air travel and tight overhead bins.
Ergobaby Metro 3 Folding, Unfolding, and Ease of Use
The autofold is another solid improvement. Press two buttons on the handlebar and push forward. It folds itself. It also has a built-in carry handle, though I do kinda wish it also had a strap.
Unfolding has a bit of a learning curve. It’s meant to be one-handed, but it can get stuck partway, especially when the stroller is new. I often found I needed a second hand to get it fully open.
It weighs around 17 lbs, a little more than listed. Still manageable, especially with the built-in carry handle. The fold is compact enough for many overhead bins, but may not work on the smallest regional planes.
Maneuverability & Performance of the Ergobaby Metro 3
With new built-in suspension, the Metro 3 handles more than just smooth sidewalks. I tested it on gravel trails and cobblestone, and it held up surprisingly well. The wheels are the same size as the Minu V3. It’s not a jogging stroller, but it’s great for a travel stroller.
