What makes a stroller safe for running?
I remember when I first learned that not all Baby Jogger strollers are meant for jogging… I mean, Jogger is in the name, but to my surprise, one of my favorite all-terrain strollers, the Baby Jogger City Mini GT3 and GT2 Double, are not meant for jogging, just all-terrain. So what makes a stroller safe for jogging? Things like suspension, 3 air-filled tires, a locking front wheel that provides stability and prevents wobbling at higher speeds are just a few of the things needed to be able to jog with your stroller.
The Features Parents Look for in Joggers:
- Locking Front Wheel
- Hand brake
- Suspension
- Safety wrist strap
- Covered basket
- 5-point harness (most strollers have this these days)
- Reflective elements in the wheels and the canopy
- Large weather protective canopy
Air-Filled Tires vs. Never-Flat Tires
There is a big debate among runners about which has superior performance: air-filled or never-flat tires. In general, it is believed that air-filled tires have better performance across a variety of terrains, but at the same time, companies like UPPAbaby and Guava have figured out a way to make an incredible-quality jogger without the hassle of having to travel with a bike pump and flat repair kit.
If you primarily walk with your jogger or are an occasional runner (like my husband), you will not notice a difference between the two. In fact, the number of times I tried to take my kids for a walk and had to deal with a tire that was low on air was a real pain. But if you are an avid runner and want superior performance, air-filled tires on strollers like BOB and Thule may be the way to go.

BOB strollers are known for their durability and incredible performance, making them a great choice for avid runners.

Best Jogger Overall Runner Up – Thule Urban Glide 3
Parents ask me all the time what my favorite stroller is, and honestly, it’s hard to choose. But I have to give a shoutout to the Thule Urban Glide 3. It’s an incredible jogging stroller with many of the same features as the BOB, along with some thoughtful upgrades. I love Thule’s quality, and the Urban Glide 3’s improvements (like the new upright seat!) make it even better. If you’re looking for a high-performance jogging stroller with newborn capabilities, this one is definitely worth considering.
Best Compact Jogger – Guava Roam
I LOVE this stroller and a lot more than I thought I would. My biggest frustration with joggers is how big they are when folded, and this one advertises a 50% smaller fold compared to the competition, so I was intrigued. Also, the fact that it does not use any chemical flame retardants (though a lot of strollers do not have these anyway) and being GreenGuard Gold certified is also a selling point. The Guava Roam makes a great everyday jogger, just keep in mind there is no bassinet or full flat option for use from birth. We have put this stroller to the test and it really can take any terrain and handles running like a pro.

Best Everyday Jogger – UPPAbaby Ridge
UPPAbaby is known for its high-quality strollers and customer service. The Ridge is an amazing everyday jogger that pairs with the safe sleep approved UPPAbaby bassinet (I got mine second-hand, and they have historically been easy to find used).
I love how easy it is to tighten the harness straps, and the buckles are simple to use. The upright seat, extendable canopy, closed storage basket, and included water bottle holder are also great features. It works with several different infant car seat brands, includes a snack tray (a must-have for everyday use), and the seat fabrics can be removed for use with the bassinet or car seat, which is a feature many parents ask about. I do wish it had an adjustable calf rest and a slightly more compact fold, but joggers are naturally bulky. If you’re looking for a jogger that works with a bassinet, this is your best everyday option.

- No adjustable calf rest
- Large Fold
Best Modular Jogger – Veer Switch&Jog
Did you know a jogger with a reversible seat existed?! I didn’t until recently, and let me tell you, the Veer Switch&Jog is so cool. It even has a bassinet option. It has air-filled tires and adjustable suspension and is one of the easiest strollers to clean. Check out this video I made to see the features in action.

Best Double Jogger – Thule Urban Glide 3 Double
This is one of my husband’s favorite strollers and one he liked jogging with the most. We got the Urban Glide 2 (here is my review) a few years ago, and it was our first true double stroller. This stroller feels incredibly high-end, has an easy fold, and with the upgrades on the Urban Glide 3, like upright seats, easier to attach accessories, and car seat adapters, adjustable calf supports, etc., it is almost a perfect running stroller. While it is big when folded, it makes up for it with features.

FAQs
When Is It Safe to Start Jogging with a Baby?
It is generally not recommended to run with babies until they are at least 6 months old due to their lack of head and neck control. Check with your pediatrician before jogging, but with the addition of newborn-approved accessories, you can start walking your baby in a jogger right away.
